Hello again, pretty people!

I'm pleased to announce the details of the CM'09 Art Grants application process. There is a lot of information here, so please read through this entire email.

Critical Massive is a multi-day regional event sponsored each year by Ignition Northwest as a venue for community members and friends to meet and develop collaborative relationships through the creation and experience of music, art, interactive projects, and workshops.

Critical Massive strives to be the Northwest's premier pre-playa experience and therefore welcomes the idea of providing grants for art centered in the Northwest. This grant process is open to on and off playa art, the only restriction being that all or a completed significant portion of the project must be displayed at Critical Massive 2009. Please note the grant is intended to be assistive, covering materials and costs of installation, not artists’ time.

This year the Ignition Northwest Art Committee will offer both our standard art grants and microgrants once again.

* Art grants are intended for larger pieces (typically sculptural, interactive or both, but we're open to hearing the creative ideas you have). Art grant awards are capped at 20% of the entire art grant budget. This year's budget isn't set, but if inline with the last few years, the cap will be somewhere around $1500. Last year, our largest grants were for $1000. Please keep this in mind as you develop the budget for your project.

* Microgrants, limited to $100, are intended to encourage art throughout the event, in ways not typically thought of for art grants. Last year's Umbrella Favela is a delightful example of the kind of project we're interested in for microgrants: inexpensive, with high wow factor.

Key Dates:
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Submission period opens:
    March 18th, 2009 - 9am

Submission period closes:
    March 31st, 2009 - 7pm (art grants)

Recipients announced (art grants and early-submission microgrants):
    April 10th, 2009

* Please note that microgrant submission requests close once the entire microgrant budget is allocated, but no later than June 31st. Any microgrant applications submitted during the initial submission period will be reviewed in that same time frame, with submissions after the initial period being reviewed as they come in.

Application Criteria:
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Before submitting an art grant request, please note the following criteria that will be used as guidelines as the Art Grant Committee reviews applications.

The CM'09 art grant commitee:
* Will give priority to projects that demonstrate ability to complete by the event (via thoroughness of application)
* Will not provide grants for sound projects. All requests for sound installations must be coordinated through the event producers or their designate.
* Will not provide grants for workshops or performances. It is likely that there will be a workshop coordinator again this year, though that is not yet determined.

The following points from the introduction bear emphasis:
* Art grant awards are intended to be assistive, covering materials and costs of installation, not artists’ time or outside labor costs.
* Art grant awards are capped at 20% of the overall grant budget. Please keep this in mind as you develop project budget, and plan accordingly if your project is going to be significantly more expensive. Let us know what other funding sources you anticipate using.
