Get Connected: mailing lists and websites

If you're looking for links to local groups and organizations, please try over in the Theme Camp area. Aside from those, there is really only one web site we want to list here. Can you guess what it is?

Yes, burningman.com, your first stop for all information directly related to the event. If you don't already have this one bookmarked, now is the time to take care of it. Also,

 * www.massiveburn.org The website dedicated specifically to Critical Massive, the Regional event for Seattle and surrounding areas.

* www.ignitionnw.org The website for your regional representative board, Ignition NW.

Mailing Lists

Confused by the numerous burn-related lists we have around here? You're not alone. To help sort things out, here's a not-so-quick rundown of what's available so you can be sure you're subbed to all the right things.

 * Seattle Announce. This is a moderated list that is kept very tightly on topic. (Note: this list was recently merged with the now-defunct mass-announce list.)

Traffic Almost non-existent in the off-peak months and then grows to only a couple messages a week as the event approaches. No real reason not to subscribe.

Posting As mentioned above, this list is kept very tightly on-topic. Therefore:

o Your message must have something to do with Burning Man and hopefully be relevant to the Seattle area.

o Messages focused on an individual are rarely, if ever, pushed through. Examples of these include things like "I need a ride to the playa" and "I'm selling my bike for $35." Please use the message boards for things like these (http://burningmanseattle.com/bbs).

o If you're publicizing an event, it should be related to Burning Man. Theme Camp fundraisers are valid; regional events for the whole community are valid; general rave-ish blowouts are not valid. Also, saying "the guy who is running the lights went to Burning Man in 2002" does not make it a Burning Man event. Most importantly, you MUST MUST MUST clearly state where the funds from the event are going.

o If you think you meet these criteria, then send your message to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

* Event Planning. This is the newest list on the block! If you want to stay up-to-date on all the details surrounding our regional events like SeaCompression or Critical Massive, you should be subscribed to this list. Major announcements will still be pushed through Seattle Announce, but you'll need to be on Seavent if you want to hear about every meeting and such.

Traffic Low to high.

* Washington/BC Regional Discussion (aka BCWA. A somewhat on-topic, mostly community moderated list that can include upcoming party announcements, where to buy gear, which route to take, how to build stuff, camps looking for people, etc. It can also stray into long, off-topic threads, so don't be upset if that happens.

Traffic Moderate.

* The Jack Rabbit Speaks. Not a Seattle-area list, but still, you must subscribe to this list. This is the official missive from Burning Man LLC and is your primary source of all up-to-date information.

Traffic Only comes out about once a month during non-peak time and increases to once every week or two as the event approaches. Your inbox can handle it.
